Re: What happened to rec.food.veg?

The Internet has changed and grown a lot over the last years. Some years ago,
rec.food.veg
had less competition. As I see it, the discussion domain for RFV is pretty much
everything related to a vegetarian lifestyle. That is, RFV is a pretty general NG.
Today
there are lots of forums for discussing specific veg*an related topics.
(AR, health, religion, etc.)

And in the beginning there were only newsgroups and mailing lists. And then came
web-based
discussion boards. Then live discussion on IRC. And then web-based chat rooms. And now
MSN
(behold - evil!) and similar applications.

Nothing lasts forever. But I think that RFV is still a great NG, and it has its
mission.
A number of the individuals who contribute to this NG have decades of experience and
excellent
insigths and know-how. (Thanks everyone!) And as you mentioned, it has also become a
nice place
without so much trolling.

I'm not sure what happened to all the trolls. Even alt.food.vegan wasn't too bad the
last time
I was reading it. However, the drop in trolling activity in the NGs coincided with an
increase
in email spam. So they're now probably working as professional spammers... :)
