Oh boy could this NG have fun with you! But, I'll clue you in a little. Gar
are indeed a fun fish to catch. They're minature rockets that can grow to 3+
feet fairly easy. BUT, they are covered with a slime of which the like you
may never encounter on any other specie. It has a delightful odor, or so
says a Skunk! Gars have these long snouts which are filled with teeth that a
great white shark would be impressed with. Most bass anglers avoid the gar
simply for the odor, the slime, the teeth and the fact that they often leave
your line limp and take your lure. Those that fish for it purposefully do so
with all that in mind and use a technique and equipment that makes it more
pleasant, or should I say the least unpleasant to have to handle them after
bringing them to the boat. I agree as suggested, google gar fishing and look
for the "mophead" lures they use and the "tools" they use to handle/release
the catch. Now what would make this interesting is if you do catch one, hold
it up for the camera, and post it on abpf so we can all see ;)
