Frankly, I think people are likely to be in more danger from an ugly and agressive Golden (yes they exist) than a "pitbull", as they are more likely to behave in a sensible manner toward a strange pit. FWIW, I had occasion a number of years ago to handle a group of pitbulls which had been seized in a dogfight raid and were being held for evidence. They were incredibly sweet towards humans.
