Re: Someone please respond

Aflatoxin is no joke. Contamination of G.K. by aflatoxin is
documented. Brands differ. "Fingerprinted" means dried plant, not
standardized extract. Is there more reason to worry - I don't know.

There is an inherent risk of contamination for a number of herbs, not just gotu kola. Huperzine A, for example, is a compound extracted from Huperzia serrata. However, a number of Huperzine A supplements on the market do not merely contain huperzine A, but also an array of crude extracts of the moss which are potentially toxic. (Note, however, pure Huperzine A has been shown to be non-toxic even at doses 100 times the therapeutic dose). Thus, unless you are completely confident that the supplement you are ingesting is of high quality (i.e. > 99% pure), proceed with caution – since even minuscule amounts of impurities can produce significant detriment with chronic usage.

Take care John.
