From that quote by the coroner, looks like it was repiratory depression that was the mechanism of death. What I'd expect with DXM. And, for those who like arguing semantics here, note that the coroner referred to DXM as a _psychedelic_. ;) http://www.pjstar.com/news/police/b1ac3r00033.html Peoria student died from overdose of DXM NORMAL - An Illinois State University senior from Peoria who died in his Normal apartment in September overdosed on dextromethorphan hydrobromide, or DXM. McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said Jonathan M. Frary was using the drug, commonly found in cough syrup, as a psychedelic. Frary apparently ordered a concentrated powder form of the drug off the Internet. He mixed the substance with orange juice, Kimmerling said. DXM, which acts as a cough suppressant, could stop someone from breathing if there is an overdose, Kimmerling said. Police found Frary, 22, unresponsive Sept. 24 in his apartment at 907 West Market St., Bloomington. Frary's death is the first death in McLean County for an overdose of DXM in which the victim took the drug for its psychedelic effects, Kimmerling added.
