Re: three phase

Thank you.
I know generators (alot of WWII surplus) were Delta and were not able to power some emergency backup equipment my county had. Emergency radios ect.
If I recall correctly, the Wye also can be wired for a 'third leg' (hot and ground) that has approx.
1.6 times the voltage of a single leg.
Too, to reverse rotation on a Why (Delta too ?) one only needs swap any two connectors.
I have never seen a bought 'Add-a-Phase', but the homemade ones worked well and the
owners swore they saved them money.

The motor is said to be three phase, but the lathe plugs into single phase 240V.

The mains are usually 3 phase,

Could you be more specific here? The mains in our town are all single
phase. We don't see three phase until we get to the big distribution
towers.

There are also two types of 3 phase, Delta and Wye.

These aren't types of phases. These are types of loads you can use on
three phase power.
