Maybe tapestry crochet? Use one of the public domain cross-stitch
chart-conversion programs to chart the pattern and then work it really
loose rather than making the very firm fabric that normally results from
tapestry crochet gauges. Or do a practice piece in the tight method as a
smaller article, like a tote bag.
