Re: Yarn Snob Appology on Hemp

Fancy work is the nautical term for objects made out of rope or line. It
includes everything from a decorative bell rope to the deck mats and lines
wrapped around the (steel) railing to prevent the abraision of paint and
subsequent rusting on long passages. Of course, hemp is ideal for this
purpose. Think about standing barefood on a plaited hemp mat. The hemp does
not get too hot in the sun and on a long watch it is so much softer than
teak! The hemp feels good, does not rust, and tolerates a lot of sun light.
It is a fiber with a lot of utility and a lot of luxury.

Wool is still an adventure for me. The more I get into it, the more
subtleties that I find.

Maybe when I grow up and am an elite knitter.
