Square Dance Fashion Trends

Does anyone Square Dance and know the trend in square dance fashion?
My mom just started square dancing and I want to make a dress for her
for the spring when she graduates from some classes, but she says she
thinks the trend is to longer dresses and not so much the full shorter
ones with the ruffled petticoats underneath. (I thought that was half
the fun).  She is about 65 years old if that makes any difference.
When I did a search for patterns I found all types of styles.
