Re: Laundering; was -embroidery online web site

No . . . don't dry first. :-)

Also . . . be careful if it's not linen or cotton. Blends don't always respond well to bleach.

I always try spot cleaning with chlorine bleach. Gosh, I never measure, but use one of those glass (Pyrex brand) custard cups, pour in a little bleach, lots of water, use a clean wash cloth and dab away.

If that doesn't work, I will sometimes just soak it for 20 or 30 minutes in a small mixing bowl (or my big dutch oven - whatever size needed).

Try looking on the bleach bottle . . . I think there are directions.

Also, try soaking in Clorox2 (or equivalent) overnight. Start with hot water and add your normal detergent, too.

I'll tell you what else I've done (not yet with embroidery, but pillow cases, socks, etc) is boil water in the dutch oven, put in soap and bleach and boil the articles. You have to watch because when it starts to boil - it will really spill over if you have too much water. Just stir and it will settle down.

You will be AMAZED how much whiter things will come after simmering on the range for 20 or 30 minutes or more. And the water will be positively gunky looking.

OK, here's the scenario --- I've laundered my embroidered dinner linens
using regular detergent without, but some of the meal & wine stains
haven't fully washed out. One of my questions is, if I put the
still-stained pieces in the dryer, will the stains become permanently
set? Or, should I wash the items (without drying them) again and use
bleach the second time around? Also, if it's a full load (I mean
generally), about how much bleach should be put in the wash water before
the items are loaded? TIA.

Sweet Stitching!!!!!!!
