opalescent/opalescence?

Hi,

Are there two fibers, opalescent and opalescence?  I have
a stitch guide which implies that the fiber needed cal be
plied, but the thread my LNS sells cannot be, and so I
got to wondering if there are two similarly named fibers?
If so, who manufactures each and does anyone have a source
for them?  TIA.
