Jewelry tends to not be a comodity.. It is an art.. Unless you go to 
mall stores.. :)

But, most stand alone jewelers are artists.. We create works of art 
that are meant to be an emotional attachment, not a lump of gold with a 
hole in it.. Would you purchase a painting based on how much paint was 
used?? Or would you purchase it based on how it made you feel?? 

Seriously, with all things, if you are happy with what you paid, and 
feel you got a fair deal, then does it really matter what it cost??
