My friend picked up the 15 litre kenmore, on sale here this week for $199 CDN (reg $249). Eager to play! The 22 litre model is $349 CDN, going on sale next week for $299. Not worth the extra money in my humble opinion. (CDN dollar is currently worth about .75 USD, by the way). Smirnoff Vodka (40% ABV) prices here: 375 ml (13 ounces) = $12.95 CDN 750 ml (26 oz) = $22.95 1.14 L. (40 oz) = $34.50 1.75 L. = $50.50 10 KG (22 pound) bag of white sugar is $7.89 at the grocery store, so the kenmore should pay for itself in about four days. (kidding!) To my dismay, none of the brew supply stores carry Turbo yeast here. A couple of them usually have a "similar product" called Super yeast, but there is NONE in the city right now - "On backorder - should be in within two weeks". (Monty Python cheese shop sketch anyone?!!) 5 g. packet (0.176 oz) Champagne-style wine yeast (LALVIN brand) EC-1118 = .99 I'm sure it won't even come close to the ABV% of turbo, and will probably take MUCH longer to ferment.... But maybe I'll start a packet fermenting while I look for a mail order turbo supplier. I have two plastic primaries, so it's okay if the first one is tied up for a while. Any recommendations for a mail order supplier of turbo-style yeast? Thanks again.
