Step by step, I think the usual process is:

1. Trade grapes for beans at healthfood store from some hippy.

2. Trade "magic" beans for cow from some simpleton.

3. Butcher cow and sell meat for tidy profit (not at healthfood store.)

4. Buy malt, hops and yeast with tidy profit at AHBS

5. Make beer.

6. Sit around with annoying self-satisfied smile on face for at 
   least a month.
