Yep, I use one (got it free though) and several other regular posters have
them. They are definitely worth it, and are not much more trouble other
than the cost. I've typically seen information saying that a stir plate will
increase your cell count by a factor of 6. I don't know how accurate that is,
but if it's even in the ballpark it's a huge advantage when making yeast
starters.
