This is a rare 1800's J. E. Stevens bank known as the "Girl Skipping Rope" bank. It is in excellent working order and has its original key. It has been the cherished possession of the same family for over 100 years and never has been offered for sale previously. The bank measures 8 inches high, by 8 inches wide and is 5-1/2 inches from front to back. It has no damage but was overpainted about 70 years ago in a dark red with gold. The mechanism is key wound and then a coin is placed in the slot and the trigger is pushed to begin the action. The little girl swings the rope over her head and under her feet and completely over again, while swinging her legs and turning her head side to side, repeating numerous times. See http://home.comcast.net/~gsrbank/girl_skipping_rope.wmv for a video of the bank in action. The unusually long operating time and extremely ornate cast iron casing of this bank make it one of the most desirable and unusual collectible banks ever produced. This is not a reproduction.
