Internment of "enemy aliens" has been in American law since around 1780
or so and is part of international law as well. The internment was only
on the West Coast, the internees were free to leave if they accepted
employment or schooling outside the exclusion area. Some 4300 students
were given scholarships to colleges outside the exclusion area.
There is little argument that the hysterical drumbeat we hear again
these days resulted in egregious harm and unfair treatment of tens of
thousands of innocent citizens and residents.
Hostage taking, as in the case of al Douri's wife and daughter, is
illegal. It is a criminal act.
If the family of a US politician or member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
were taken hostage by some Arab group I wonder if you would be so
generous with your interpretation of fairness?
Be careful what you are willing to accept or impose for others. It might
just come around to you and your family one day.
