Agreed however I would add to your statement that for a properly designed system your expectations are not unreasonable. In Shimano's case the XTR brakeset uses the "belt and suspenders" approach which is good for the users and Shimano's legal fees. I don't believe that other manufacturers of disk brake systems take this approach. ALF
