Each year at Penn State the police hold an action of all the bikes left by students and otherwise recovered on campus. Usually the decent major brand mountain bikes, say a Trek 8xx or specialized Rockhoper go for about $35 if they have front suspension about $15 if they do not. The shinny funky dual suspension department store style bikes, say a Mongoose, usually get bid up to more than their cost during WalMart's sale prices, highs biks around $75 and such. The road bikes, a Trek 730 Touring bike or lugged specialized Allez, are usually sold in lots with all the other "ten-speed" bicycles the salvage workers think no one wants. You can normally get a stack of about ten "ten-speed" bikes that will include one prize, maybe one cool old 3 speed and a bunch of huffy 10-speeds from the late 80's.
