Since you've got to land someplace, then it's another 3 hours back. Or are you going to land then immediately take off again? Me? I'd have lunch (or dinner), take a walk, etc. Then do the return 250 nm. Lovely day for a flight, eh? I'm in Denver, so FTG-LVS (Las Vegas, NM) is (are you ready to cry?) 249.5 nm. I've done that in a bit over 2 hours (cherokee 180) and the C-172 shouldn't be substantially slower.
