Re: Jesus Nut

My dad told me of a "prank" he observed played on a fellow pilot candidate at Rucker back when I was in diapers..

This fellow candidate had a pretty blatant reputation for not doing a thorough preflight when he wasnt being directly observed by the instructional staff... would just go out, get in, and crank it up and begin his flight.

Well, one of the instructors became aware of it, and placed a second "Jesus" nut over the top of the doorframe. Said candidate came out and fired up, warmed up, powered up... slammed his door shut which displaced the nut (and getting the attention of the pilot). He shut it all down pretty quick when he saw the nut bounce off the pavement

A Jesus nut is the single nut at the top of the rotor mast that holds
the rotor hub on. If it comes loose, the rotor hub will separate from
the mast and you and Jesus will get to have a talk. As a general
rule, you will always see a lot of safety wire around and through a
Jesus nut.
