>Previous poster with missile crew experience related that the mixed-sex >crews were given a 30 minute advance notice of any visits to the silo. I don't recall reading that post, and I would question whether the poster was really a former crewmember because the; "30 minute heads up" call is ridiculous for several reasons: 1. Despite its flat barron terrain of North Dakota, the radios installed in the crew alert vehicles were not powerful enough to give a radio call 30 minutes out, hell we had a hard enough time with certain sites giving a 10 minute out call. 2. Often I had absolutely no clue on the gender make up of the crew I was replacing. Technique dictated that just prior to leaving base, the on coming deputy would call the crew on duty and see if they needed any supplies or other items brought out. Typically, the person awake at that hour (~0900L) was the on duty deputy, if the deputy was not a female there was no was no way to know if the commander was a woman unless you had the inclination to check the schedule. >I was just asking- apparently, your experience is that no, this didn't >happen with your crews- but were your crews mixed-sex? > I've already told you, I have at least a dozen alerts with women, so obviously we had "mixed-sex" crews. In fact, by the time I was serving in the early 90's, every wing had "mixed-sex" crews. BUFDRVR "Stay on the bomb run boys, I'm gonna get those bomb doors open if it harelips everyone on Bear Creek"
