If it is just a little too small leave it alone and it will get bigger in a hundred hours. If it is a lot too small you are screwed so mark this off to education expense. If you try to open it up by pushing against the center electrode you may crack the ceramic and have an intermittent miss fire that WILL be hard to find. Sometimes this can be found with a high pressure spark plug tester some times not. I like the screw on collar with the two wing screws for adjusting the gap. For me this works better than the high priced champion unit.
