Actually, he does *ok* on the 1.5 milers (won the Winston at Lowes, first
Cup win was at Texas, won the pole at Hotlanta last year or year before).
No, IMHO, the milers or thereabouts seem more troublesome to them. They need
a win at The Rock and at Darlington to help boost their confidence. The win
at Phoenix surely didn't hurt either and the *last non plate win* at Dover
prior to that, in 2001, was promising as well. Junior himself almost
admitted this when he said in his Wind Tunnel interview with DD that the 8
team tested twice at The Rock this year. Yes, they tested twice there and
still didn't produce much, but to use 2 tests in one season (out of 7 total
allowed tests on race venues IIRC) at the same track shows me that they know
it is a weakness. Admitting the problem is the first step, as we all know.
:-)

If by 1.5 milers you mean Chicago, Kansas and Las Vegas, well then I'd
agree. They're open wheel tracks being used for stock car racing so I can't
begrudge them suffering at those venues. If a track is going to be flat,
IMHO, it should be less than 1 mile in length. Homestead figured it
out...why can't everyone else? LOL!
