PS206: Winter Cup Galloway Hills preview

Round One Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally
7th December 2003

Twelve crews will make the journey to the Scottish borders for the first
round of the Peugeot TOTAL 206 Winter Cup 2003. The southern Scottish
town of Castle Douglas welcomes Peugeots mini series for the second
consecutive year; the 45 mile gravel event being a stern test for both
Super Cup regular competitors as well as enticing a good proportion of
newcomers.

Classic Scottish Stages will greet the protagonists as some pit their
skills against each other for the first time in equal machinery. The
1600cc Group A cars will be led away at 9am after an 8.30 start from
Market Hill, Castle Douglas, with two services and a further four stages
before returning for the finish at 1.15pm.

Competitors from England, Scotland Wales, Northern Ireland and Eire will
vie for a share of the 1500 prize fund on this short, sharp test of
mettle. Dubliner Gareth MacHale hinted at the shape of things to come
with a win on the Tempest Stages in October, but he will be harried by
six others with experience in the 206 Super Cup on these classic forest
tests.

Scholarship winner Ieuan Rowlands heads up the five newcomers and their
baptism of fire in this ultra competitive championship will stand them in
good stead in the future. 2002 Winter Cup graduates took fastest stage
times and overall honours on 2003 Super Cup events, proving the worth of
this close season battle.

The eventual winner will take a cheque for 500 at the prize giving at
4.45pm with a further 2000 in Peugeot Sport Special Tuning vouchers going
to the Winter Cup victor after the three rounds of the Championship.
