He was, at that time, undisputably the best driver in the world and - for the first time in his career - he had the best car under him. One of Pironi's wins was stolen from Gilles, so I only count him as scoring one first......which would give it to Watson. Don't mind that particularly. Fact is, however, that Keke drove brilliantly all season in the underpowered Williams and thoroughly deserves to be called a World Champion, even if he did win it on points. As I said, there will always be exceptions.....
