Problem solved!
Sprayed some lubricant on fan belt and noise went away. I am a little
embarassed to admit to such a simple solution but belt seemed ok in terms of
tension and condition and I had never heard a fan belt make such a noise.
Anyway problem solved and thanks to all for their interest  and
participation.
Car can now rest in garage for the winter.
