Problem solved! Sprayed some lubricant on fan belt and noise went away. I am a little embarassed to admit to such a simple solution but belt seemed ok in terms of tension and condition and I had never heard a fan belt make such a noise. Anyway problem solved and thanks to all for their interest and participation. Car can now rest in garage for the winter.
