It's a definition, not a rule. And part of the definition includes "cars that look like 1948 or older...." so the replicars kind of fit the definition. But most steet rodders look askance at the replicars, unless they're (good) replicas of things like 32 or 34 fords....

The muscle cars are muscle cars, and when they get modified we generally
call them street machines, hot rods, or just "cars".  The cars from the
50s when modified are generally called "custom rods" or just "customs",
or if it's a hot rod, then call it a hot rod (like my blown 55 Chevy).

So my '35 Auburn replicar would qualify as a street rod? 8)
