1948 *still* works as a standard for the National Street Rod Association!

now thats a really stupid rule they have....

"non racing" is also specified. kinda strange to put
a high HP eng. together and never take it to the track!

also, 50's Hudsons, Studebakers, Mercs. etc. OR 60's GTO, Novas, Mopars etc cant be street rods? lol

It's not a rule, and it's not stupid...it's just a definition that most rodders know about and follow. If you never heard of it before, then it may sound wierd, but after you think about it awhile you may realize that it makes sense.

The muscle cars are muscle cars, and when they get modified we generally call them street machines, hot rods, or just "cars". The cars from the 50s when modified are generally called "custom rods" or just "customs", or if it's a hot rod, then call it a hot rod (like my blown 55 Chevy).

The non racing thing is probably a liability issue :) I took my 39 Chevy down the strip when I was a member of NSRA years ago!
