The minute you take it off, you won't pass a visual test and will lose
any benefits you might have in most states for not having to take a
test.  You don't say where you live, but I would think twice before
doing that, at least check out state (and Federal Law).

Many states won't even let you sell the car until you fix it too as I
understand it.
