Should I consider a salvaged 2003 Passat 4Motion?

I have seen a local ad in our city paper for a used 2003 Passat
4Motion for a great price. I called and found out the great price was
for a repaired salvaged Passat. The damage was to the front right side
and of course "we bought the salvaged car and fixed it because it had
such minor damage". The buyer was a body shop.

The asking price is $20,000. Should I look at such a vehicle? I am
especially concerned about the 4Motion components.

Would you consider such a vehicle? Can a mechanic tell what was fixed
and what was not touched after an accident and if "only minor repairs
were made"? Would taking the car to another body shop for evaluation
be a good idea?
