An excellent reference by a timing belt manufacturer. Your engine is an interference type which almost guaranties major engine damage from resulting piston and valve contact. Gates recommends timing belt replacement at 60,000 miles unless specified otherwise by the manufacturer. In this case 90,000 miles is Audi's specified interval. If you have a non interference engine adhering to strict timing belt replacement schedules is not as critical since no major engine damage will occur if the belt fails. Lugnut
