Only a small percentage of drivers are locked into a single brand - and that is mostly because they prefer the service they receive at a particular location. Also, independently-owned gas stations are not required by law to sell any particular brand, and they often buy from the same independent fuel terminals as the low-baller, unbranded stations. For example, Sun Oil, Co. (Sunoco) does not officially do business in my state - the closest Sunoco-brand tank farm is 200 miles away - yet there are Sunoco stations here. At one time, an independent oil wholesaler owned the rights to use the Sunoco name here, and to sell their own product under the Sunoco name. They now all buy from the independent tank farms. You will get "real" Sunoco products in the greater Boston area, but you will get an independent's product from a Sunoco station in Maine. Bob Paulin - R.A.C.E. Chassis Analyisis Services
