Yes, but that was a burner. Merely playing a disc, with VERY few exceptions, has no firmware or other limitations based on 80 min vs. 74 min discs. The only example I can think of was the old Marantz CD-63 and similar models which wouldn't play long discs fully to the end, presumably a mechanical limitation.
