Nov 17-23/03 ratings roundup/new shows scorecard

National Ratings in Primetime:
Week of Nov. 17, 2003

As the November sweeps concluded and holiday programming kicked in,
CBS won its fourth consecutive week in households, viewers and adults
25-54, while inching past the normally dominant NBC by one-tenth of a
rating point among adults 18-49. The Eye net was the most watched
network on five nights of the week, with eight of the 10 most watched
programs. Survivor: Pearl Islands, which aired on Wednesday, was the
top rated program overall in both viewers and adults 18-49. And the
man with the Harpo Marx-like curls, Jon from Survivor, is now
officially the most hated man in the world of reality television.

In addition to a growing CBS, sister network UPN was on the
year-to-year plus side, beating last place the WB by 172,000 viewers.
Biggest year-to-year erosion was the frog net, which slid by
double-digit proportions in all key categories.

What follows are the weekly results (with change versus the year-ago
week in parentheses).

Households:
CBS: 8.4/14 (+ 2), NBC: 6.4/11 (-10), ABC: 5.8/10 (- 3), Fox: 4.5/ 7

Worth Noting:

Trista and Ryan's Wedding (ABC)
Wednesday 9 p.m. (premiere)

Viewers: 12.12 million (#20 overall), A18-49: 5.0/14 (#10t)
Grade: A-

On last night's Larry King Live, Larry asked Trista what she plans on
doing after the wedding. Her response: "I want to decorate the house,
and maybe open a gift shop." My response: "Yeah, right!"

-------

Shania Twain: Up Close (NBC)
Tuesday 9 p.m.

Viewers: 8.98 million (#49), A18-49: 3.5/ 9 (#36t)
Grade: C

Pretty but modest.

---------

Justin Timberlake: Down Home in Memphis (NBC)
Friday 8 p.m.

Viewers: 3.74 million (#92t), A18-49: 1.5/ 5 (#89t)
Grade: F

Why even bother giving Justin Timberlake a special if the network is
going to bury it on a night when his audience is out ringing in the
weekend?

----------

Christina Aguilera Stripped in London (WB)
Sunday 9 p.m.

Viewers: 2.74 million (#102), A18-49: 1.2/ 3 (#98t)
Grade: F

Am I the only one sensing a low rated pattern here?

----------

million viewers.
