That's total garbage. It is indeed. Apparently they had rehired Nate BEFORE his death scenes were shot, which means that they could have chosen to NOT kill Al of in the first place. I assume competent actors like Jim, Fiona, Nate and Kathy could have pulled off a quick re-write and done a fine job. And you are right, the whole concept of killing the character just to get rid of the actor was a bad idea. There were several reasons why Al might have moved away, leaving him open for a return or re-cast. What bugs me is the special treatment Al gets over all the other dead characters. Everyone mourned Megan, including her soul mate--why didn't SHE come back? Same for Luna, Sam, and other beloved characters. What makes Al so special that HE gets a second chance while nobody else does? If the goddess (or WHOEVER) is handing out free passes to some people, shouldn't the same apply for everyone? (It's not even like Al was a saint.) --S.
