Over the past few years, I atteneded several shows when the performers asked for donations for Broadway cares... This past weekend I saw Wicked. At the end of the show, they "auctioned off 30 minutes with Ms. Menzell". One bidder paid $3,000 for the experience, but I saw hundreds of people of walking out during the auction. In all honesty, I was annoyed by what they were doing. When I left the theater, I noticed that nobody gave a donation to the people at the door. I'm wondering... Is this "auction" being done at other Broadway theater performances and Isn't it going to backfire? When I saw one of the last performance of Les Miserables, almost everyone was giving $5.00 and $10.00 at the door. $7.50 x 1000 people = $7,500, far more than the $3,000 at the auction.
