I'm with you, Noel. I liked what URINETOWN was trying to do, I loved the staging, enjoyed some of the music, but those self-conscious jokes struck me as largely unfunny and old hat. Is anyone really surprised in 2003 to learn that what they're watching is a stageplay, rather than real life? This idea has been hammered into the ground since Pirandello and before ... but I still thought a lot of talent and smarts went into the show.
