The prompt for the question came from something Denise Crosby said (can't cite it, unfortunately), where she related how the writers wanted a Romulan female who had something of a love/hate relationship with humanity (and Picard in particular). They invented Donatra, but it seemed they had the perfect pre-made character in Sela. Of course, Denise Crosby wouldn't necessarily have added anything, so maybe I'll just shut up...
