And why did those ground vehicles that Picard used in "Nemesis"
utilize old-fashioned wheels and suspension that don't look too far
removed from vehicles in the 20/21st century? Obviously, in the late
24th century, this is long after hover vehicles and flaying cars were
invented.
Even George Lucas and the SFX people in all the Star Wars movies were
far more creative in this regard.

I suspect they weren't more creative but rather had far more money.

Not that Nemesis was a wellspring of creativity... ;)

Hey, the Wars films were not exactly original; Lucas based the first one pretty directly on some Japanese flick I can't remember the title of,

The Wizard of Oz

and the last battle is largely ripped
off from "The Dambusters" - supposedly he even cut footage

from that movie into his rough cut of Wars to give people an

idea of what would be happening.

Not supposedly. If you get the DVD of Episode Two,

Not likely. Ep 1 put me off Star Wars for good.

the special
features disc has a documentary on "Previsualization," the
process Lucas uses to cut to the action of the shots. It shows
one splitscreen clip with the Falcon's escape from the Death Star
matched to WWII footage. That's if you believe anything coming
out of Lucasfilm; the Falcon footage is edited down from that in
the movie.

Interesting, thanks for the correction.

Besides, I liked Nemesis a lot.

I like it, but not a lot. Perhaps it's time to give it another
chance and look for the DVD.

I just don't get what people didn't like about this movie. I don't know if I'd rank it as my all time favourite, but I think it's certainly one of the better ones.
