Where does that leave Chiang's "Hell is the Absence of God", "72
Letters", and "Tower of Babylon"?

Because they "feel" like Science Fiction to me, especially "72 Letters".

(Gods Damn, I wish I had had my copy of _Stories of Your Life, and
others_ with me when I ran into him at ConJose'.)
