Worth a try? Can you start mid-series? Worth a try, yes -- I liked the first, _Rules of Prey_, quite a bit. Starting mid-series is not such a good idea, though -- the backstory does accumulate, and also the lead character gets less interesting, as his successes in the earlier books have led to him becoming something of a local celebrity hero, rather than the troublesome loner he was in the first few. He's more fun as an outsider. (Yes, this means the character does grow and develop, and isn't re-set to zero at the end of each book or start of the next. Whether you consider this a positive or a negative is a matter of taste.)
