Can you TiVo one station while watching another? I used to able
to VHS stuff that way years ago on my parents' tv, but haven't
been able to figure out how to set it up that way since.

You can if you get analog cable with cable ready TV and VCR. But if you've got a digital box, you're pretty much stuck watching one thing at a time. Same thing, I hear, for dish systems.

Uh huh. OK, this sounds a lot like what Aisling and Mac said. The key is
the "cable ready" tv. Does that mean that you split the signal before
running the main cable into the box?
i.e. Main Cable comes into the house and through a splitter, one cable then
going to the box and another straight into the tv?<<

Yes.

And again, you can't do that with a digital cable box because..? Is it
because the cable company has you subscribed for EITHER analog or digital
signal - analog can be split, digital can not? I'm cornfused.<<

I do this with digital cable, David, and it's no problem. The only snag was that the cable guy wanted to hook everything up for me when he brought the box over for the first time, and he was way less informed about how to do it than me. So I just let him hook up one line into the digital cable box as he explained to me how women just don't understand these things, waved sweetly at him, and after the truck pulled away I rewired the whole mess. Simple.
