If this project was placed deep in an existing mine, in an
economically deprived area with low environmental values, near
an existing high quality energy source it might be debatable
whether it made sense to pour money into an esoteric physics
project.

But Leavenworth is a thriving recreation based town, dependent
on high quality scenery, water, and nearby Wilderness.
Leavenworth doesn't need, and can't handle the crowding, noise
and impacts of construction, new power lines, traffic congestion,
etc. One doesn't need to investigate the project to find out
what the risk is of radioactive materials escaping, or the risk
to the Icicle Creek hydrology from blasting and drilling, or the
increased utilities cost to all residents as infrastructure is
upgraded to know this project makes no sense for Leavenworth.

LEAVENWORTH, Wash. (Aug. 19) - Fire crews made headway Sunday on
containing a 6,500-acre fire that had threatened homes near this
Bavarian-themed resort town.

With temperatures and wind dropping, firefighters were able to
focus on containment for the first time since the Icicle complex'

Woke up to see the crack of dawn (a nice lady). Whizzed round to
Ogwen and finally made an abortive attempt on the Devil's
Kitchen gully and retreated to the base of South Gully which was
in fantastic condition. 2 fantastic steep ice pitches

Geoff he overcame the crux by putting his hammer behind the

look of wild elation after climbing the last bulge shouting "ice

experiences on El Cap etc etc he was able to peg up dubious
overhanging rock sometimes only suspended RURPs (Ultimate
Reality Pitons) . Kim had difficulty in cleaning his pitch and
was on a number of occasions left dangling. The rock tower was
traversed around to the famous pendulum pitch. On this one had
to swing on a rope from a jammed ice axe and at the end of the
arc had to jump into an overhanging crack and clip into the
wedge, a few aid moves and the difficulties were over (or so we
thought) all that was left was the summit icefield. Owing to the
extreme temperatures Pete Liptrot was suffering, he pulled the
balaclava lower over his forehead

I was going to use this particular post heading to refer to the
happy occasion of an ethics panel in Alabama removing Alabama
Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore from office over his
refusals to remove the granite Ten Commandments monument he
planted in that court's building. The Unseen Editor feels that
an appropriate punishment for Moore would be hanging, but I feel
that only making him reimburse the governments of Alabama and
the United States for the entire costs associated with the
litigation that he caused, and then hanging him, would be
appropriate. Good riddance. God may forgive you, but there's no
reason for any of us here to do so, as you wasted money on your
political grandstanding that could have been better spent
elsewhere by your fiscally strapped state (you bastard) on
stupid things. Like schools and hospitals.

But then, when considering "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", I see this
story of "Operation Iron Hammer", which I'll be damned if I tell
you doesn't appear to me to be a "major combat operation"
launched by American forces in Iraq, following the egregious
recent attack on an Italian base in Iraq that left over 30 dead.

All I can say is, let's see... a group of terrorists attack
somewhere, killing lots of people, drawing heavy handed
responses from a vastly superior military, possibly provoking
more terror attacks... lather, rinse, repeat. No... those of you
who favored this Iraq adventure going in had no idea that the
United States was likely buying its own version of the West Bank
and Gaza. No idea at all. This was going to be a cakewalk, we
would be welcomed as liberators, yada yada yada.

Well, congratulations. I hope you and Roy Moore are all happy
about the results of your arrogance.

boilerman and he found himself in hell. Being used to stoking
fires and extremely hot temperatures, he found hell actually
quite comfortable. When Satan went to check out the new arrival,
he found him sitting in his room smiling.

"You like this?", Satan asked.

"Yes, sir", said the sailor, "this feels like a spring day to me."
Not wanting the new guy to be too comfortable, Satan turned up
the heat a bit. When he went back the next day to see how his
new arrival was doing, the sailor was still happy; he hadn`t
even broken a sweat.

"I like this kind of weather", he told Satan.

For the next few days in a row, Satan again turned up the heat,
but each day the Sailor looked as comfortable as ever. By last
Sunday, Satan decided to try something different. Rather than
turn up the heat even more, he turned it off. Icicles formed in
the sailor`s room! When he checked on the guy, the room was icy
and he was shivering, but he had a grin from ear to ear, bigger
than ever. Satan was exasperated!

"Why are YOU so happy?" he demanded from the sailor. "It`s
FREEZING in here!"
