The word "film" is meant to include the whole > process, not just the celluloid some people choose to use. > The use of the word "film" has become a popularized term for pieces made on video, but in the real world "film" is just that - long strips of celluloid and not magnetic tape of any kind. What is accepted is what you choose to use. Suit yourself, but everytime I hear someone refer to videos or video taping as "film" or "filming" I have to laugh to myself. The only terms that describe both is "motion picture" or "movie" and it is from that association to these terms to original substance "film" that we find ourselves debating whether or not we can call video "film". It's just like other popularized terms for simple things like "video capture". I can't count the times I have seen people say they have "downloaded" or "uploaded" their video to their computers. Though it is foreign to me having come from the original "video capture" boards era before the popluarity of the internet - where the terms "upload" and "download" are commonly used terms, I find it makes more sense in reality than the cross-terming of "film" and "video". One "shoots film" and "shoots video", but one cannot film anything with a video camera. Call it what you will. One's intelligence is measured by the ability to draw distinctions between various ideas, methods, and practices. Wouldn't you be a little leary of your doctor if he suddenly stopped using "intelligent terminology according to the ideas, methods, and practices" of his profession and began to use cross-terminology between you heart and your big toe?
