Does anyone know the name of this movie?

It was on TV, late 70's or so, and probably was made-for-TV. The gist
of it was that a kid thought he had mistakenly killed his best friend
(I forget how), but didn't admit to it and spent the entire movie
wrestling with the guilt of his misdeed. However the twist at the end
was that the friend was not really dead, the entire town had conspired
to pretend that he was, and the reveal came as the main character wept
over the open casket and his friend sat up and started laughing at
him...and he turned around and the entire church was pointing at him
and laughing. Seriously twisted, and I am convinced I'm remembering it
wrong. Anyone have any clue what this was?
