Murphy's 'Mansion' Leads Holiday Box Office

Los Angeles (Reuters) - In a highly
competitive weekend for family movies
at the North American box office,
"The Haunted Mansion" an Eddie Murphy
film based on a Disneyland
attraction, opened at No. 1 with a
narrow margin over incumbent champ,
"The Cat in the Hat."
According to studio estimates issued
on Sunday, "The Haunted Mansion"
scared up $25.3 million in the three
days since Nov. 28, while the Mike
Myers comedy "The Cat in the
Hat,"followed with $24.7 million. The
fall sleeper hit "Elf" held steady at
No. 3 with $22.2 million. . . .
