Older and wiser. Better than the other French flavor-of-the-day ingenues, like the girl in _Swimming Pool_ or Audrey Tautou. OK, the latter is a decent actress, just overexposed. I always hear that French actresses get better role than U.S. ones as they grow older. I don't believe it. So many of them get pushed off stage before they have a chance to mature. How many are willing to swear that Isabelle Huppert was a great actress in the 70s? Now she is practically in a class of her own. Of course things may be worse here. Mary Louise Parker, who won a Tony (I think) for _Proof_, lost the film adaptation starring role to someone not worthy as her supporting actress. For my money Parker is the best American screen actress under 40 today. Speaking of former ingenues -- Good to see that Amanda Langlet (_Pauline at the Beach_, _A Summer's Tale_) seems to be working with Eric Rohmer one more time.
