I think they will allow studios to examine pirated versions of their movies
to determine in which region or subset of theatres the pirate video was
filmed. ie; there are variations in the red dots on different prints of a
movie, which allow the studios to somehow narrow down the theatres in which
piracy takes place by enforcing policy or refusing to distribute at
locations found to have piracy going on.
