Re: will dvds murder the videos?



VHS is already dead for all but some timeshifting of TV viewing
and PVRs and recordable DVDs are starting to take this out too.

The quality of picture and sound along with myriad additional
features you don't get on VHS tape is at the core of this. I've
been picking up DVDs for over four years and am spoiled... I
can no longer endure the relatively poor picture and sound
quality of VHS. I also have hundreds of VHS tapes for sale
cheap :-)

Switch to DVDs was the fastest widespread adoption of a new
consumer technology of it's kind ever (they've only been around
for 6 years or so)... this into a NA market that had over 90%
VCR penetration...

I find players for under $100 and DVD movies for $10-$20 to
be very reasonable.

Unreasonable is the music industry that is determined to sell their
CDs for the same $10-$20 range... why? We can buy the
live DVD with all the music, more features, and the images for
the same (and often less)...
